Move days are the heartbeat of RV living.
They’re also the days that test your patience, your marriage, your communication and your organizational systems all at once.
No matter how many times you do it, move day always starts the night before. Preparing things in advance makes the morning go smoother. Then the morning comes, there’s always coffee involved, usually consumed standing up. Starting off in the bedroom, move everything off the walls and floor, roll the rug up, move chargers out of plugs and get ready to put the slide in.
Then onto the bathroom. Cabinets get checked. Items are secured. Dogs or kids sense something is happening and suddenly need everything at the same time.
Kitchen & living room are next on the list. Dishes put away, counter tops cleared, rugs put away and more.
Living tiny means nothing can be left “just sitting out.” Every object has a place or it becomes a projectile. Forgetting to latch one cabinet can mean cleaning up a mess you didn’t sign up for two hours later.
Then there’s the emotional side of move days. You say goodbye to a place that might have felt like home for a week or a month. You leave behind routines, favorite coffee spots & bookstores, friendly campground neighbors. And even if you’re excited about what’s next, there’s always a moment of “Are we really doing this again?”
Driving days can be long and mentally draining. Weather changes quickly. Wind becomes personal. Every sound from the RV makes you hyper-aware of what could be wrong. And yet, when you pull into the next destination and everything goes smoothly, there’s a deep sense of accomplishment that’s hard to explain unless you’ve lived it.
Then do everything in reverse! Get everything back out, put rugs down, unpack backpacks and get settles.
Move days are exhausting. They’re also proof that you’re living intentionally. You packed up your entire life and moved it, again. And that kind of resilience changes you.
